I am a photographer based in Seattle, WA.
I am interested in breaking away from the formal representations typically expected of a photograph and I am fascinated by the ways a camera can be used beyond a tool for documentation.
Exploring and exploiting the limitations of the camera as an artistic instrument are the core of my work. Unlike other tools of expression the camera cannot draw from the infinite possibilities of the imagined, only from the realities of the physical. It is limited to capturing what passes in front of the lens. Everything in my photographs existed (if only for a fraction of a second) and was in front of the camera during the creation of the photograph.
By combining abstraction and realism in ways that only a camera can, I hope to create works that invite the viewer to reinterpret the familiar in ways that spark curiosity, reflection and joy.
